Saving it for a special occasion

An occasion that may never arrive.

When my grandmother died, my mom and her sisters faced the daunting task of emptying her closet.

They found clothes that my abuelita had never worn, boxes of chocolates still in their packaging, and perfumes that had not been opened.

My grandmother was from a different time. She didn't grew up with luxury or abundance.

She saved her fancy clothes, beautiful coats, perfumes, jewellery, chocolates, and more. She saved it all for a special occasion.

I've been thinking a lot about her lately, and about all that I wish I had shared with her.

What if, the special occasion you're saving that bottle of wine is now? What if that stunning dress hanging in your closet needs to be worn today?

The Special Occasion is NOW.

Looking back on the past two years, which have tested all of us in multiple ways, I think of all the "special occasions" we've missed.

And as cliché as it might sound, there's no time like the present.

What happened yesterday is in the past, and we don’t know what will happen tomorrow. We only exist in the now.

Our lives can change in a matter of seconds.
