My experiences do not invalidate yours

A person’s experience is not an attack, a criticism or a judgement of who you are.

Some of the most beautiful writing I’ve read is about people and their experiences.

It takes a lot of courage to write about personal things.

It is not easy to pour your heart out for the world to read.

As a writer, I am the most vulnerable when I write. Everything I don’t dare say, I write.

Sharing our stories brings us together. That is why I share my stories.

Stories can enlighten us about other realities.

Stories can help us feel less alone.

Stories help us feel seen and heard.

We have been telling each other stories for thousands of years. We have found evidence of storytellers in caves and pyramids.

When someone shares their experience, it is not to invalidate others.

I read a lot of stories online, and I frequently find defensive responses.

Angry responses. Responses from people who are offended by an experience.

Who am I to tell someone who has shared their story about how they should feel?
