Mediocre men get a free pass, women pay the price

Mediocre white men do so little and are considered extraordinary. Meanwhile, women, (even more so women of color) hardly ever receive the praise mediocre men get, if at all.

I’m drained from dealing with the Elon Musks of the world. You know them — entitled assholes, who interrupt you, comment on your body, and make sexist jokes. The men who think their ideas are the only ones that matter.

The shitty part is, the Elons are in positions of power. They make the decisions that impact our day to day.

The game is rigged —

Men get rewarded by showing up. WeWork founder, Adam Neumann, comes to mind. He burned through millions of investors’ money. Who dared doubt him? He still walked away with a nice severance package.

The glass ceiling is so real, that I’ve been squashed by it. Unequal pay is part of women’s reality. According to the European Commission, in 2021, the gender pay gap stood at 12.7%. Women earn 13.% less per hour on average than men (in Europe).

Women are also less likely to get a promotion or rise in the corporate ladder. A study from MIT Sloan finds that companies are less likely to promote female…
